Woodward 8237-2597 ProTech-GII Overspeed Protection Controller Product Overview and Technical Specifications
Input and Output Electrical Parameters
The Woodward 8237-2597 adopts industrial-grade isolated input and output circuits to resist on-site signal interference and ensure long-term stable signal transmission. It accepts standard 4-20mA current and 1-5 Vdc voltage analog inputs for speed setpoints, load feedback and linkage control signals transmitted from DCS and PLC systems. The built-in high-resolution speed monitoring module supports a speed measuring range of 0 to 10,000 RPM to capture real-time speed changes of rotating machinery. It is fitted with high-reliability trip relay outputs with 10A maximum contact capacity, which can directly drive emergency trip valves, shutdown actuators and alarms without extra intermediate relays. An isolated 4-20mA analog output transmits real-time speed data to the central control room, and a standard Modbus RTU interface supports data upload, remote parameter setup, status monitoring and fault record query. The controller operates at a typical low power consumption of 25W for long-term stable and heat-resistant continuous operation.
Main Application Scope and Typical Application Cases
Main Applications & Typical Application Cases: With high safety performance and strong environmental adaptability, the Woodward 8237-2597 is used for overspeed monitoring and safety protection of various industrial high-speed rotating power equipment, including steam turbines, gas turbines, diesel engines, gas generators and large industrial compressors. It serves as key safety equipment for units prone to overspeed runaway risks. In practical applications, it is widely installed in thermal power plant steam turbine overspeed protection systems to provide real-time speed monitoring and emergency tripping, avoiding major equipment damage and safety accidents. It is also commonly used in gas power stations and distributed energy projects for turbine and engine linkage protection and stable speed control. Additionally, it applies to petrochemical plants, offshore power systems and heavy-duty diesel generator projects, effectively preventing overspeed faults and ensuring safe and stable operation of production and power supply systems in line with industrial safety requirements.
Core Product Features and Functional Advantages
Core Functions & Product Characteristics:
This ProTech-GII overspeed protection controller integrates high-precision speed detection, intelligent logic judgment, alarm indication and emergency trip functions, acting as the critical safety barrier for high-speed rotating machinery. It provides accurate speed measurement with ±0.1% precision and fast real-time sampling, effectively preventing protection misoperation caused by speed fluctuation and signal jitter. It supports both differential and zero-difference protection modes, which can be flexibly configured to match different operating processes and safety standards. Featuring 2-out-of-3 redundant voting trip logic, it eliminates single-point failure risks and improves overall protection reliability. The onboard LED display shows real-time speed, protection thresholds, operating status and fault codes for convenient on-site checking and quick troubleshooting. With IP56 protection rating, it offers reliable dustproof, waterproof and moistureproof performance for harsh working conditions. Strong anti-electromagnetic interference and anti-vibration design ensures stable operation in complex industrial environments.
