Triconex 3704E Input and Output Specifications

Input

This is a high-density analog input module equipped with 64 single-ended analog input channels. It only accepts voltage signals, with two software-switchable ranges: 0–5 VDC and 0–10 VDC. It cannot directly receive 4–20 mA current signals; external shunt resistors (250Ω for 0–5VDC conversion, 500Ω for 0–10VDC conversion) are required to convert current loops into readable voltage signals.

Each channel has a typical input impedance of 30 kΩ and provides robust overvoltage protection against 150 VDC / 115 VAC continuous surge. A 2.5 kV AC isolation barrier separates all input channels from the rack backplane to suppress industrial electromagnetic interference. Onboard diagnostic circuits constantly monitor open circuits, short circuits and over-range signals, reporting all abnormal status via front panel LEDs and TriStation configuration software.

Output

The 3704E has no physical field output terminals or analog/digital output channels for on-site equipment control. After analog-to-digital conversion, collected field data is transferred digitally to Tricon main processor modules (e.g., 3009) over the rack’s internal TMR backplane bus for safety logic calculation. Any field control output functions within the system rely on separate dedicated output I/O modules installed in the same rack.

Triconex 3704E Wiring Method

The Triconex 3704E analog input module features a split wiring structure of internal backplane connection and external terminal board wiring, with no direct field wiring interfaces on the module body.

For internal wiring, the module plugs into the Tricon system rack via high-reliability gold-plated backplane connectors to complete power supply and TMR redundant data transmission with the main processor. It supports hot-swap operation and is equipped with an anti-insertion error structure, enabling online module replacement without rack power shutdown.

For external field wiring, all 64 analog input channels are uniformly connected to dedicated supporting terminal boards. Field sensor signals adopt shielded twisted-pair cables, which are firmly fixed by screw-locked terminals to prevent poor contact caused by long-term equipment vibration. To suppress electromagnetic interference, all cable shields adopt single-point grounding at the terminal board side to avoid ground loop current.

Signal data after analog-to-digital conversion is uploaded to the system main processor through the rack internal bus. This module requires no additional independent external communication wiring, realizing stable and safe signal transmission of the whole system.
