Backplane Bus Interface

The ABB CP800 is a high-performance dedicated communication processor tailored for the Symphony Plus HPC800 control system, serving as a bidirectional data gateway at the control rack level. Supplied with 24 V DC power through the backplane, the module supports steady operation of its internal processor and uninterrupted data communication across the system.
Built around a high-speed 32-bit embedded processor core, the CP800 undertakes centralized processing, sorting and forwarding of system data. It communicates with the HPC800 main controller over the internal backplane bus to exchange real-time control logic, process variables, alarm events and configuration parameters, enabling synchronized data transmission inside the control rack.
The module integrates diverse communication interfaces to facilitate signal interconnection and protocol conversion between the internal control system and external field devices. The proprietary PN800 plant Ethernet delivers low-latency and highly reliable transmission for internal system data. The general-purpose Ethernet port allows external connectivity with SCADA platforms, host workstations and Modbus TCP-compliant equipment. Meanwhile, the configurable RS232/RS485 serial interface supports field data communication via standard serial protocols including Modbus RTU.
The CP800 operates in coordination with ABB S800 series I/O modules and cannot collect field signals directly. It receives sampled field data transmitted from S800 modules via the backplane bus, and distributes control commands issued by the main controller to corresponding field I/O modules, establishing a closed-loop transmission path for control commands and process feedback data.
An on-board CR2032 backup battery sustains the real-time clock and preserves system configuration parameters in non-volatile memory during power failures, facilitating rapid system restart and intact parameter retention once power resumes. While online, the CP800 continuously monitors, filters and reliably routes communication traffic, safeguarding the real-time responsiveness and stable operation of the overall automation control system.
