8. Wiring & Application Notes
All I/O modules mount on IC695CHS backplanes and receive power from IC695PSA040 / PSA140 power supplies.
Analog signals use shielded twisted pairs with single-point grounding; separate AC power cables from signal wiring.
Most IC695 / IC694 modules support hot swap, which must be enabled in Proficy Machine Edition.
Diagnostics cover open circuit, short circuit, over-range, power loss and missing modules.
Legacy IC693 modules work via LRE adapters with limited hot-swap and diagnostic functions.
Proficy Machine Edition (PME) is used for configuration, range setup and fault monitoring.

Wiring Method for GE IC695CPE3051 (RX3i CPU)
Rack Backplane Power Connection
This CPU is a rack-mounted unit belonging to the RX3i system and has no separate external power terminals. It receives power from the RX3i power module via the backplane bus. Insert the CPU into the assigned slot of the IC695CHS series backplane and fully fasten the backplane locking latch. The power module delivers 24 VDC and 5 VDC backplane power to the CPU and other modules. External power must not be applied directly to the CPU.
Energy Pack (IC695ACC400) Wiring
Use the dedicated IC695CBL001 cable to link the bottom port of the IC695ACC400 energy pack to the corresponding connector on the bottom of the CPE3051. The energy pack is mounted on the left side of the rack. It draws charging power from the rack’s 24 VDC rail during normal operation. When mains power fails, it provides temporary power for the CPU to finish saving data into flash memory.
RS232 Serial Port Wiring (DB9 Female)
Interface: 9-pin D-Sub RS232 port, intended for local programming and SNP communication.
Use a dedicated programming cable compatible with IC693CBL316.
Pin assignment: TX, RX, GND. Cross-connect TX and RX between the CPU and PC or serial device, and tie the signal grounds together. The serial cable shield shall be single-point grounded at the cabinet PE bar. Do not connect the RS232 port directly to an RS485 bus.
Ethernet Port Wiring (RJ45)
Interface: Shielded RJ45, 10/100 Mbps auto-negotiation, compatible with straight-through or crossover cables.
Deploy shielded Cat5e twisted-pair cables for connection to switches, PCs or other Ethernet devices.
Supported protocols: SRTP, Modbus TCP, EGD.
The cable shield should be grounded either at the switch end or the cabinet ground bar; double-ended grounding is prohibited. Keep network cables separated from power cables and high-frequency drive cables to minimize EMC interference.
Backplane Expansion Bus Wiring
All RX3i I/O modules, communication modules and special function modules are installed on the same backplane. Data exchange takes place over the internal backplane bus without additional signal wiring. If a serial expansion rack is adopted, use the dedicated RX3i expansion bus cable to interconnect the main rack and expansion rack.
Protective Grounding
Run a short, heavy-gauge grounding conductor from the rack PE terminal to the cabinet protective earth bar. Maintain equipotential bonding across all racks, DIN rails and power supplies. Improper grounding may lead to intermittent communication loss and signal noise.
