Eaton PDP-TP (PROFIBUS-DP Slave Communication Module) Voltage, Current & I/O Definition

Voltage Ratings

Rated supply voltage: 24 V DC, power is supplied through host device internal backplane connector only.

Operating voltage range: 20.4 V DC ~ 28.8 V DC, defines valid DC working window for reliable module operation.

PROFIBUS signal level: RS-485 differential signal with 5 V logic level for bus data transmission.

Insulation test voltage: 500 V AC, isolation strength between PROFIBUS bus interface and internal module logic circuit.

AC power note: No AC supply input supported; the module draws power exclusively from the host unit’s DC backplane without separate external power terminals.

Current Ratings

Typical operating current: 20 mA @24 V DC under normal communication status.

Maximum operating current: ≤30 mA @24 V DC covering peak communication processing load.

PROFIBUS bus load: Class-B PROFIBUS-DP slave device, presenting low electrical loading on the fieldbus segment.

Power-on inrush current: <50 mA during initial module power-up phase.

Input Definition

Backplane power input: Receives 24 V DC operating power via slot backplane from the parent MICRO-PANEL host unit.

Internal backplane data input: Receives process data, status signals and diagnostic information from the host controller through dedicated slot-based backplane interface.

PROFIBUS-DP bus receiving input: RS-485 physical interface accepts cyclical output data, parameter settings and control commands sent from PROFIBUS-DP master (PLC/DCS).

Note: No hard-wired physical discrete digital input (DI) or analog input (AI) terminals for direct field sensor connection. All field signal acquisition is completed by the host MICRO-PANEL device.

Output Definition

Internal backplane data output: Transmits fieldbus-received control commands and configuration parameters to the host MICRO-PANEL controller over backplane bus.

PROFIBUS-DP bus transmitting output: RS-485 interface uploads cyclical input process data, equipment status and diagnostic alarm information to the PROFIBUS-DP master station.

Eaton PDP-TP (PROFIBUS-DP Slave Communication Module) Main Characteristics
System positioning: It is a plug-in type expansion communication card dedicated for Eaton MICRO-PANEL motor protection units. It serves as the PROFIBUS-DP interface for data exchange between local motor controllers and upper-level PLC or DCS host automation systems.

Protocol compliance: Functions as a PROFIBUS-DP Class-B slave device in accordance with EN 50170 standard. It supports cyclic process data exchange to realize transmission of control instructions and equipment status information.

Hardware interface:
Equipped with a 9-pin D-Sub connector adopting RS-485 physical layer for PROFIBUS-DP connection. The module obtains operating power completely from the backplane slot of host unit, and no independent external power terminals are available.

Galvanic isolation: 500 V isolation is implemented between the PROFIBUS bus interface and internal logic circuit, which effectively enhances anti-interference performance under complex industrial site conditions.

Status indication: Two LED indicators are arranged on the front panel. The ACTIV LED blinks when normal bus data communication is active; the ERROR LED will be illuminated to alarm communication failure, configuration mismatch and other bus-related faults.

Data interaction function: It forwards remote control commands issued by PROFIBUS master station to the MICRO-PANEL host unit. Meanwhile, it uploads motor current values, fault codes, diagnostic events and equipment operating status to upper-level automation hosts.

Installation restriction: Hot-swap operation is forbidden. Module installation and removal shall only be carried out when the MICRO-PANEL host is fully de-energized, so as to prevent backplane damage and unexpected communication interruption.

Bus performance: It creates low load on PROFIBUS-DP bus segments and supports full range of standard PROFIBUS-DP baud rates, which can adapt to various fieldbus segment layout configurations.

Mechanical form factor: Compact slot-in structural design for internal installation inside MICRO-PANEL enclosure. The module cannot be mounted directly onto standard DIN-rail.

Functional limitation: The module itself is not equipped with physical hard-wired DI/DO/AI/AO channels. All field signal acquisition and control logic processing are completed by the base MICRO-PANEL host device.

Environmental adaptability: Developed for cabinet-mount installation. It can withstand the temperature and humidity of ordinary industrial cabinets and applies to low-voltage motor control scenarios.
