Eaton URTDII-01 Input and output
Input
RTD inputs: 12 channels in total; compatible with 2-wire and 3-wire RTD sensors
Supported RTD types: Pt100, Pt1000, Cu10, Ni120, selected by on-board DIP switches
Sensor excitation: Built-in constant low-current source for resistance measurement
Input function: Acquire temperature data for motor windings, bearings and auxiliary points of transformers
Output & Communication Interface
Fiber optic link: Optical port for connection to Eaton E-series protection relays (e.g. EMR-4000), maximum transmission distance 121.9 m
Modbus RTU: Optional Modbus RTU communication to upload temperature data
No 4–20 mA analog output or relay contact output; temperature data is digitally sent to the master relay
System Compatibility
Host device: Eaton E-series motor and generator protection relays including EMR-4000
System role: Remote RTD expansion module. Protection logic is not processed locally; temperature protection functions are executed in the master protection relay
Programming & Configuration
Configuration method: 8-position DIP switch on the module to define RTD type and wiring mode
Setting software: Eaton E-Series relay configuration software. Temperature values can be read, and alarm or trip thresholds are configured in the master relay
Data transmission: Temperature readings and diagnostic flags for RTD open/short faults are uploaded to the main relay. Temperature alarm and trip logic are set within the master unit
Diagnostic
Monitors RTD open-circuit, short-circuit and sensor wiring faults; fault status bits are transmitted to the host relay via fiber or Modbus

Application Scenarios of Eaton URTDII-01
Type: Universal RTD Temperature Input Expansion Module
Large High-voltage Motor Temperature Monitoring and Protection
Paired with Eaton E-series motor protection relays including EMR-4000, this module acquires RTD signals from motor stator windings, drive-end and non-drive-end bearings. Over-temperature alarm and trip protection are implemented in the host relay. It is widely applied to continuously operated heavy-duty motors such as pumps, fans and compressors.
Generator Set Thermal Monitoring
It is applicable to synchronous generators and standby power generation units. The module monitors the temperature of windings, bearings and iron cores to provide thermal protection for generator insulation. Temperature data can be uploaded remotely to SCADA via Modbus RTU.
Power Transformer Temperature Acquisition
It adopts Pt100/Pt1000 RTD sensors to measure transformer winding hot-spot temperature and oil temperature. Temperature data is transmitted to the main protection relay through optical fiber to support the control logic of cooling fans or cooling pumps. It is suitable for industrial distribution transformers and auxiliary transformers in power plants.
Heavy Industrial Process Equipment
Deployed in steel, cement, mining, chemical and pulp & paper industries for temperature monitoring of rotating machinery. Its 12-channel design enables centralized multi-point measurement for bearings, gearboxes and auxiliary process points. Optical fiber transmission delivers strong immunity against severe electromagnetic interference inside high-voltage cabinets.
Decentralized Remote Temperature Acquisition
When RTD sensors are located far from the main protection relay (maximum fiber distance 121.9 m), the URTDII-01 can be mounted close to field sensors. This shortens analog signal wiring and enhances noise resistance.
Retrofit and Upgrade of Existing Protection Systems
For motor protection renovation projects, it expands multi-channel RTD measurement capacity for Eaton E-series relays. It supports 2-wire and 3-wire RTD sensors including Pt100, Pt1000, Cu10 and Ni120, ensuring compatibility with most existing field thermal resistance sensors.
Unattended Substation and Auxiliary Power System
It enables automatic temperature monitoring of power auxiliary equipment. Temperature readings and sensor fault diagnostic information are sent to PLC and upper-level monitoring systems through Modbus RTU to support predictive maintenance and equipment health management.
