SAM Electronics DAS40M Operating Procedure
Power-on and Self-Test
Apply 24 VDC marine-rated power to the DAS40M unit. The module runs an automatic power-up self-diagnostic routine. Confirm the front-panel display and status indicators light up properly, no hardware fault codes are presented on the LCD, and reliable bus communication with the MCS-40M host system is established.
Normal Watch-Keeping Operation
In standard duty mode, the module continuously scans all field-sourced digital alarm inputs. Upon receiving an alarm trigger, it activates local visual alerts and audible horn outputs, and propagates alarm notifications to the bridge and remote watch-keeping stations through relay contacts and the system backplane bus.
Alarm Acknowledgement
When an alarm is raised, press the front-panel ACK button to acknowledge the active condition. The local audible alarm will mute, whereas visual alarm indication stays active until the original field-side fault is removed. Multiple concurrent alarms must be acknowledged individually.

Duty-Mode Selection
Press the DUTY button to reassign the active watch-keeping station. Ensure the duty-handover signal is transmitted across the system bus; status indicators at remote watch stations shall update synchronously complying with SOLAS watch-keeping requirements.
Alarm Log Review
Select the ALARM-LIST key to access the LCD overview of current active alarms and historical alarm events. Use up-and-down navigation keys to inspect alarm descriptions, timestamps and real-time status details.
Maintenance and Parameter Configuration
With proper authorization, press the EDIT key to open the maintenance menu for adjustments to duty-alarm time delays, output mapping and associated logical settings. Comprehensive parameter editing must be completed using the supporting GEAMAR MCS-40M service software tool.
Functional Simulation Test
In the course of periodic checks, initiate simulated alarm conditions. Validate correct operation of horns, lamp relay outputs, remote station alerts and alarm-acknowledge functions. Return the unit to regular operational mode once testing is finished.
Power-Off Instructions
De-activate associated alarm functions prior to disconnecting the 24 VDC power supply. Unplanned hard power-off should be avoided during normal system operation. After power is restored, the DAS40M automatically reverts to its prior duty-alarm operating state.
Fault Troubleshooting
Should communication errors or hardware faults show on the display, inspect backplane bus connections, power fuses and field terminal wiring, then execute a system reset. If the fault remains unresolved after reset, engage certified marine service technicians for further intervention.
