Electrical Voltage and Current Specifications

1. System Power Input

Nominal operating voltage is 24 VDC marine power supply, with a valid working voltage range of 18 VDC to 32 VDC. The system features reverse polarity protection and fully complies with marine EMC certification standards.

The typical power consumption of the full rack system is 35 W, with a maximum power consumption of 55 W (fully configured with CPU, communication modules, multi-channel I/O boards and DAS40M alarm module).

The typical input current is 1.45 A at 24 VDC, and the maximum input current is 2.3 A at 24 VDC.

2. CPU Module Power Specification

The CPU module adopts 24 VDC rated power supply, with a typical operating current of 0.4 A and a maximum operating current of 0.7 A.

3. Digital Input Module Parameters

This module supports two signal types: passive dry contact signals and active 24 VDC sensor signals.

High-level trigger threshold: ≥18 VDC; Low-level trigger threshold: ≤5 VDC.

The single-channel sink current is 6 mA to 10 mA under 24 VDC rated voltage.

Power-on and System Self-Check

Supply 24 VDC marine-rated power to the MCS-40M rack system. All module power LEDs shall illuminate. The CPU executes automatic power-up self-diagnosis; check front-panel operator unit display for startup messages. Confirm no hardware fault alarms, verify stable backplane bus communication with all plug-in modules including DAS40M alarm unit, digital and analog I/O boards. Allow 1-2 minutes for full system initialization.

Normal Monitoring Operation

Under regular running condition, the system continuously acquires field signals: discrete status from digital input modules and process values (temperature, pressure, level) from 4-20 mA analog input modules. Real-time measured values are displayed on the MCS-40M operator panel. Pre-configured alarm thresholds are compared against incoming signals; alarm events are generated once measured values exceed limit settings, transmitted to DAS40M for audible-visual alert output and remote watch-station notification.

Parameter & Process Value Browse

Use arrow navigation keys on front-panel operator unit. Scroll through measurement groups to view live process data, equipment status and channel tag descriptions. Access group pages for engine auxiliaries, pumps, valves and other monitored machinery. Display shows current value, engineering unit and configured alarm high/low limits for each measuring point.

Alarm Handling Operation

When an alarm triggers, the panel displays alarm text, timestamp and alarm priority. Press ACK key to acknowledge active alarms. Audible alert will silence after acknowledgement, while visual alarm indication remains until the actual field fault condition is eliminated. Multiple alarms need individual acknowledgement. Enter alarm history menu to review past alarm events, occurrence time and reset records for failure analysis.

Duty-Watch Station Co-ordination

Work in conjunction with DAS40M duty-alarm module. Select required watch-keeping station via DUTY function. System distributes alarm notifications to assigned bridge or engine-room watch station following SOLAS duty-transfer logic. Duty-mode status is synchronised across the whole system backplane bus.

On-Site Parameter Adjustment (Authorised Personnel Only)

Enter password-protected setup menu on operator panel. Minor modifications such as alarm delay time, display scaling and filter parameters can be adjusted locally. Critical settings including alarm threshold values, channel assignment and system logic cannot be fully modified from front panel; complete configuration must be performed on PC with GEAMAR MCS-40M service software connected via RS-232 service port.

System Function Test & Routine Inspection

For periodic maintenance, activate simulation mode to generate test signals for individual channels. Verify correct alarm triggering, relay output reaction, DAS40M horn and lamp response, and alarm-acknowledge behaviour. Disable simulation mode and return to normal monitoring after finishing all tests.

Data Backup and Upload-Download

Connect service laptop with GEAMAR MCS-40M configuration software through isolated RS-232 service interface. Upload existing project and parameter database from MCS-40M for backup. Download updated configuration after modification. Do not cut off rack power during upload-download process to avoid project corruption.

Power-off Procedure

Under normal operating circumstances, avoid direct hard power-down. Complete system-relevant operating tasks and finish alarm acknowledgement first, then disconnect the 24 VDC marine power supply. After power restoration, MCS-40M automatically reloads saved configuration and resumes previous monitoring state.

Fault Diagnosis & Troubleshooting

If CPU or module fault codes appear on display, inspect 24 VDC power supply voltage, main rack fuse, backplane connector locking status and field terminal wiring. Check communication status for bus-off errors. Perform system soft reset via front-panel function key. If faults persist after reset, isolate defective plug-in module and contact certified marine automation service engineers.
