ABB HVC-02 3HNA029043-001 controller module

The ABB HVC-02 (3HNA029043-001) is a compact high-voltage control board for ABB paint robot electrostatic painting systems (IPS), driving the cascade circuit to supply adjustable HV to spray bells/guns as set in the IPS profile. Rated for roughly −5 to +40 °C, IP20, cabinet-mounted, and built with a triple-protected multi-processor CPU board, it is commonly used in IRB5500 paint robots for safe, stabilized HV generation.

ABB HVC-02, 3HNA029043-001 Wiring Method

General Wiring Requirements

Complete all wiring work with power disconnected. Shielded cables shall be applied for analog signals and CAN-bus communication. Cable shield should be single-ended grounded to the module housing.

Power Wiring

Link 24V DC positive pole to the module’s 24V terminal and 0V/GND to the GND terminal. Polarity must be correct, as reversed polarity will cause permanent module damage. Attach the module PE housing terminal to protective earth ground.

CAN-Bus Communication Wiring

Adopt robot-specific internal CAN-bus cable and plug into the dedicated CAN connector of HVC-02. Termination resistor is activated on IRC5 controller side, and no additional termination resistor is required for HVC-02. This bus handles data interaction between HVC-02 and IRC5 robot controller.

Digital Input Wiring (24V DC, PNP, supplied by IRC5 controller)

HV_Enable: Wire to IRC5 digital output channel; high logic level activates HVC-02 high-voltage output

HV_Reset: Wire to IRC5 digital output channel; fault reset is triggered by rising edge signal

External_Interlock: Connect to external safety interlock contact; high level releases interlock while low level blocks high-voltage output

Ground references for all input signals shall be tied to the 0V reference point of robot controller.

Analog Input Wiring

HV_Set_Analog_In: 0-10V analog reference signal sent from IRC5 for target high-voltage adjustment. Connect signal negative terminal to analog GND, and deploy shielded twisted-pair cable.

Digital Output Wiring (24V DC open-collector, external 24V DC pull-up is required)

HV_Ready: Feedback signal for module operational readiness

HV_Active: Feedback signal indicating high-voltage output is working

HV_Fault: Collective alarm signal for module malfunctions

HV_Overcurrent: Alarm output for over-current protection activation

HV_Overvoltage: Alarm output for over-voltage protection activation

For each output channel, install the load between 24V power supply and output terminal. The shared 0V reference shall be consistent with robot system ground.

Analog Output Wiring

HV_Measure_Analog_Out: 0-10V analog feedback reflecting real high-voltage measured value. Connect to IRC5 analog input channel, link signal negative to analog GND and use shielded twisted-pair cable.

High-Voltage Output Wiring

Connect the high-voltage terminal of HVC-02 to high-voltage cable of electrostatic bell or spray gun. Maintain adequate creepage distance for high-voltage circuits. Insulation and clearance specifications shall fully comply with ABB painting robot installation manuals.

Wiring Precautions

Route high-voltage cables separately from low-voltage signal cables to prevent electromagnetic interference

Fasten all connector screws according to required torque value

Double-check full wiring before power-on commissioning

Internal wiring of HVC-02 module shall not be altered arbitrarily
