Installation Procedure for ABB CBC11-P (3BDH000734R1) Open-Loop Control Module
Pre-Installation Preparation
Execute LOTO lock-out-tag-out procedure; completely de-energize the Symphony Plus MR rack and all field-side power supplies.
Wear an anti-static wristband to avoid electrostatic discharge damage to electronic components.
Verify part number 3BDH000734R1. Examine the module housing and backplane connector for mechanical damage and bent pins.
Prepare necessary accessories: CI100/CI101 detachable terminal units (4 units required for full 14-channel operation), 2.5×0.4-3.5×0.5 mm screwdriver, shielded twisted-pair field cables.
Check cabinet environmental conditions: operating temperature -20 °C ~ +60 °C, free of heavy dust, moisture and conductive contaminants; ensure PE protective earth bar is reliably grounded.
Step 1: Rack Back-plane Inspection
Inspect pins on the MR rack back-plane slot for bending, oxidation and dirt contamination.
Confirm the target slot complies with project hardware configuration. Fit blank filler modules into vacant slots to preserve IP20 protection rating.
Confirm the rack 24 VDC logic power supply remains powered down.
Step 2: Module Physical Insertion into Rack
Hold the CBC11-P module with front panel facing outward and align its bottom edge with rack guide rails.
Insert the module vertically into the designated slot and push gently until the back-plane connector fully mates with the rack bus connector.
Engage both upper and lower module latches; an audible click indicates proper locking.
Apply slight forward pull to confirm the module sits firmly without play.
Step 3: Mount CI100 / CI101 Terminal Units
Ensure all field power is switched off prior to terminal unit installation.
Align each CI100/CI101 connector with the corresponding socket on the module front side.
Push each terminal unit straight rearward until it clicks and fastens tightly against the module front face.
Install all four terminal units for full-channel functionality; partial installation enables reduced 7-channel operation mode.
Step 4: Field Signal Wiring
Strip cable insulation to 7 mm; apply wire ferrules for multi-stranded conductors.
Wire digital inputs, P-switch outputs and auxiliary power circuits to the CI100/CI101 spring terminals in accordance with wiring specifications.
Deploy shielded twisted-pair field cables; connect cable shield to cabinet PE earth bar at one end only and leave field-side shield floating to prevent ground-loop currents.
Maintain minimum 20 mm separation between signal cables and high-power AC cables.
Secure cable bundles with cable clamps to relieve mechanical stress on spring terminals.
Do not cross-connect 0 V reference potentials across different galvanically-isolated groups.
Step 5: Pre-Power-on Inspection
Confirm full engagement of all latches, including module rack latches and CI100/CI101 locking clips.
Check terminals for stray wire strands and short-circuits between signal pins and protective earth.
Ensure no high-voltage is connected to I/O terminals; maximum permissible field voltage is 40 VDC.
Validate correct rack PE protective-earth connection.
Step 6: Hardware Configuration Download
Apply 24 VDC logic power to the rack, while keeping field-side power de-energized.
Connect engineering workstation to the Symphony Plus MR controller.
Verify that the physical slot number of CBC11-P matches the configured hardware database.
Download updated hardware configuration to the controller and perform a warm system restart.
Observe module LED indicators: power LED shall be ON with no steady red fault LED.
Access the system diagnostic buffer, clear transient alarms and confirm absence of hardware-related faults.
Step 7: Commissioning and Functional Verification
Switch on field-side power supplies.
Feed simulated signals into digital-input channels to validate signal acquisition.
Send output commands from the controller to verify correct switching behaviour of P-switch outputs.
Test the on-board 24 VDC auxiliary power supply intended for field sensor feeding.
Continuously monitor diagnostic information for no less than 30 minutes to rule out intermittent communication or channel-related faults.
Generate and store a complete backup of project configuration upon successful commissioning.
Module Removal Reference (Reverse Sequence)
Initiate LOTO procedure and power-down both rack and all field power sources.
Unlock and detach CI100/CI101 terminal units first.
Release upper and lower module latches, then pull the module straight forward out of its rack slot.
Important Installation Notes
CBC11-P does not support hot-swap operation. Always power off the rack before inserting or removing the module.
CI100/CI101 terminal units must not be connected or disconnected with live field signals.
Different isolation groups must not share a common field 0 V reference potential.
Leave unused-channel terminals open-circuited; short-circuiting spare pins is prohibited.
All installation activities shall conform to applicable local industrial electrical codes and standards.

Wiring Instructions for ABB CBC11-P (3BDH000734R1) Open-Loop Control Module
Pre-Wiring Safety Precautions
Perform standard LOTO lock-out-tag-out procedures and fully power off the rack before all wiring and maintenance work.
This module belongs to the ABB Symphony Plus MR I/O system with rack-mounted design. All field wiring is completed via detachable CI100/CI101 connection terminals.
Field terminals do not support hot swapping. Cut off all field power before installing or removing CI100/CI101 units.
Standard wire stripping length is 7 mm; spring-type terminals require matched specification screwdrivers for wiring operation.
Independent galvanic isolation is adopted between I/O groups; rack protective earth and field equipment grounding must be separated and standardized.
1. Rack Backplane & Module Logic Power Wiring
Module logic 24 VDC power is supplied uniformly by the Symphony Plus MR rack backplane, with no independent external power terminals.
Ensure the rack PE protective earth is reliably connected to the cabinet grounding bar.
Vertically insert the module into the designated rack slot and fasten the locking latches after installation.
Module communicates and interacts with the controller through the internal backplane bus without manual bus wiring.
2. Field Wiring via CI100 / CI101 Terminal Units
The CBC11-P module supports 7-channel and 14-channel open-loop control modes with independent galvanic isolation for each group.
A full 14-channel configuration requires four sets of CI100/CI101 terminal units for signal expansion.
Digital Input Wiring (Dry Contact / 24 VDC Level Signal)
Dry contact input: Connect field switch contact to signal terminal, and link group common terminal to field 0 VDC.
24 VDC level input: Access field +24 VDC to signal pin and field 0 VDC to group common pin.
Fixed switching threshold: 8.5 VDC; maximum withstand input voltage 40 VDC, with built-in reverse polarity protection.
#Positive Switch Output Wiring (24 VDC P-switch for Solenoid / Relay / Actuator)
Module output pin connects to the positive terminal of field load.
Field load negative terminal connects to external field 0 VDC.
The module outputs switched 24 VDC power; external positive power is prohibited from direct connection to output pins.
Each isolated group is equipped with an independent 0 VDC common reference, without cross-group sharing.
On-Board Auxiliary Power Output
Each isolated group integrates limited 24 VDC auxiliary power supply for powering low-power field sensors and transmitters.
Overload operation is forbidden. High-power field devices must adopt independent external power supply.
3. Communication Interface Description
No user-configurable external communication terminals on the module front panel.
All control data, diagnosis data and controller interaction signals are transmitted through the rack internal backplane bus.
4. EMC Shielding & Wiring Specifications
All field signal cables adopt shielded twisted-pair cables.
Cable shield is single-end grounded at the cabinet grounding bar, with field-side shield floating to eliminate ground loop interference.
Signal cables are physically separated from high-voltage and high-power cables with a minimum spacing of 20 mm.
Fix cable sheaths with cable clamps to avoid mechanical tension and terminal stress on spring terminals.
5. Typical Field Wiring Application
Solenoid Valve Control: Module P-switch output (+) → solenoid positive; solenoid negative → field external 0 VDC.
Dry Contact Feedback: Field switch connected between DI signal pin and group common 0 VDC terminal.
Relay Isolation Control: Module output drives intermediate relay coil, and relay contacts implement high-voltage isolation switching.
6. Post-Wiring Inspection Checklist
Confirm isolated group division is correct; no cross-connection of 0 VDC signals between different groups.
Verify no short circuit between output terminals and grounding points.
Check CI100/CI101 terminal units are fully locked and closely fitted with the module.
Inspect all spring terminals are tightly crimped without loose wire strands.
Power on the rack only after all field wiring inspection is qualified.
Key Wiring Precautions
Strictly prohibit accessing high voltage signals; the maximum rated withstand voltage of I/O terminals is 40 VDC.
Different isolation groups cannot share the same field 0 VDC potential.
Keep unused channels open-circuited; short-circuit of idle pins is prohibited.
All wiring construction shall comply with industrial electrical installation specifications.
