The ABB CI867K01, part number 3BSE043660R1, is an original communication interface kit designed for ABB industrial control and DCS systems. This brand‑new interface kit delivers stable data transmission and reliable system communication performance, widely used for equipment replacement and system upgrade in process automation projects.
We supply genuine ABB automation spare parts with sufficient stock and support worldwide delivery.CI867K01 (3BSE043660R1) ABB Function
The CI867K01 is a Modbus-TCP communication interface module designed for ABB AC 800M controllers and the 800xA DCS platform, delivered complete with the TP867 baseplate. Operating as both a Modbus-TCP client and server, this module enables bidirectional Ethernet-based data interaction between the AC 800M controller and third-party Modbus-TCP-compliant hardware, including variable-frequency drives, remote I/O units, field sensors and alternative PLC systems.
Interfacing to the controller through the CEX backplane bus, it supports both cyclic and acyclic Modbus-TCP data communication over 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. Communication-link redundancy is available, and hot-swap functionality permits module removal and replacement without interrupting ongoing system operation.
This module acquires field process-related data and transmits DCS control instructions to peripheral Modbus-TCP devices, acting as a protocol gateway and data router to facilitate heterogeneous industrial-system integration. A maximum of 12 CI867K01 modules may be deployed on a single CEX bus, and an RJ45 port serves as the field-network connection point. Engineered for long-term continuous operation across extended ambient-temperature limits, the unit conforms to the IEC 61131-2 industrial standard and suits high-availability automation applications.

CI867K01 (3BSE043660R1) ABB Compatible Systems, Software and I/O Expansion Guide
1. Compatible Control Systems
1.1 Controller Compatibility
Fully compatible with the entire ABB AC 800M controller series, including PM860, PM861, PM864, PM865, PM866, PM867, PM891 and HI series controllers. The module is mounted on the controller rack via the CEX-Bus backplane bus. A maximum of 12 communication modules can be installed on a single CEX-Bus.
1.2 DCS Host System Compatibility
Compatible with ABB Ability System 800xA (Version 5.0, 5.1 and all higher updated versions).
1.3 Incompatible Systems
This module does not support other ABB controller platforms, including AC500, AC31, Freelance and Compact 800 series systems.
2. Compatible Engineering & Programming Software
2.1 Control Builder M (CBM)
It is the core configuration and programming software for CI867K01. Users can configure Modbus-TCP master/slave mode, complete register mapping, variable binding and communication parameter optimization through the FBP (Field Bus Process) library.
2.2 800xA Engineering
Integrated with Control Builder M in the 800xA DCS platform. It supports program downloading to AC800M controllers, and realizes one-stop configuration of monitoring screens, alarm linkage and historical data recording for Modbus communication variables.
2.3 Core Protocol Capabilities
Supports both Modbus-TCP Master and Slave modes. The dual Ethernet ports support up to 8 master sessions and 70 slave stations in total, with cyclic and acyclic data reading/writing functions. It supports module redundancy, link redundancy and hot-swap operation.
3. I/O Expansion Solutions (Input & Output Expansion)
Solution 1: ABB Native S800 Local I/O (Highest Reliability, Factory Standard)
The CI867K01 module is not involved in S800 local I/O expansion. The S800 I/O system is mounted on local expansion racks or connected via CI810A/CI820A Profibus-DP interface modules.
Applicable I/O Modules: AI810, AI830, AO810, DI810, DO810 and other S800 series analog/digital I/O modules.
Configuration Features: Hardware can be directly added in Control Builder M, with native variable access without Modbus register mapping, featuring stable performance and simple maintenance.
Solution 2: Third-Party Modbus-TCP Remote I/O Expansion (Flexible Expansion)
This solution realizes customized I/O point expansion by connecting external Modbus-TCP remote I/O modules through CI867K01 Ethernet ports.
Hardware Connection: Connect third-party Modbus-TCP remote I/O modules (DI/DO/AI/AO) to the same Ethernet switch as the CI867K01 to ensure network intercommunication.
Software Configuration Steps (CBM)
1. Insert and configure the CI867K01 module under the CEX-Bus hardware tree;
2. Add and enable the Modbus-TCP Master driver via the FBP library;
3. Configure the IP address, port (502) and slave ID of each remote I/O station;
4. Set up data reading and writing commands for discrete coils, discrete inputs, holding registers and input registers;
5. Map Modbus register data to internal controller variables (Bool, Int, Real) for program logic calling;
6. Download the configuration program to the AC800M controller and complete communication debugging.
Limitation: All expanded I/O points are communication-mapped signals rather than controller local physical I/O. Network faults will cause I/O data loss or abnormality.
4. Key Technical Restrictions
The CI867K01 has no physical wiring terminals for field signal connection; all I/O signals rely on S800 local I/O or external Modbus-TCP slave devices.
The total number of all communication modules (CI867, CI854, CI870, etc.) on a single CEX-Bus is limited to 12.
Redundancy support: Dual CI867K01 modules can be configured for hot redundancy, realizing active-standby switching on the same Modbus-TCP network.
