The ABB UNS 0017 A-P V1 (production ID HIEE305106R0001) is the Crowbar firing board of the UNITROL 5000/6000 static excitation system, using BOD (break-over diode) overvoltage detection to trigger the anti-parallel crowbar thyristors and switch the discharge resistor across the field winding.

Fed by a 24–250 V DC control signal on terminal X1 and deriving its firing energy from the thyristor anode-to-cathode voltage, it provides two independent de-excitation trigger circuits with a maximum firing voltage of 3800 V and an 8 kV test withstand level.

Thyristor Firing Pulse Generation This board generates isolated gate trigger pulses for three-phase SCR thyristors. It supports both short-pulse and long-pulse configurable modes and performs high-precision phase-shift firing control in accordance with command signals from the main excitation controller.

Signal Receiving and Processing It receives high-speed control commands from the ABB UNITROL main excitation controller. The board acquires voltage, current and operating status feedback from the thyristor power unit, and transmits hardware fault detection signals back to the master control system for real-time data interaction.

Fault Diagnosis and Real-Time Monitoring Integrated hardware self-diagnosis functions continuously detect abnormal conditions including pulse loss, output short circuits, circuit faults and power section failures. Onboard LED indicators visually display power-on status, operating status and system faults for on-site inspection.

Fault Alarm and Signal Feedback It provides dry-contact relay outputs for external fault alarm and system interlock, which can transmit fault signals to peripheral control systems. Meanwhile, it uploads all diagnostic status data to the main excitation controller for centralized fault recording and event logging.

Pulse Output Circuit Protection Built-in short-circuit protection is designed for all firing pulse channels. It effectively protects gate drive circuits from damage caused by abnormal short-circuit faults on the thyristor gate side.

Electrical Galvanic Isolation It achieves complete galvanic isolation between the low-voltage control circuit and high-voltage firing power circuit. This design enhances system anti-interference capability and improves overall operational safety and stability.

Dynamic Excitation Regulation Collaboration With fast signal response capability, the board coordinates with UNITROL excitation controllers to dynamically adjust the thyristor firing angle.
