ASEM HMI30 Wiring Instructions
1. Power Supply Wiring
Equipped with rear industrial round power connector, supporting 18–36 VDC wide-range input (rated 24 VDC standard operation).
Pin definition: DC 24V positive, DC 0V negative, PE protective earth terminal.
Wiring requirements: Strictly distinguish positive and negative poles. Built-in reverse polarity and over-voltage protection prevents accidental power damage.
The PE protective earth must be firmly connected to the cabinet grounding bar; PE is isolated from signal ground and cannot be connected mutually.
Optional Micro-UPS supercapacitor module provides 500ms power hold-up time to ensure data saving during instantaneous power failure, supporting plug-and-play installation without additional wiring.
Recommended wire gauge: 0.75–1.5 mm² shielded power cable.
2. Ethernet Wiring (LAN1 / LAN2, RJ45 Interface)
LAN1: Main industrial network port, supports IEEE1588 precise time synchronization, connected to PLC and DCS system switches.
LAN2: Independent dedicated port for ASEM Ubiquity remote diagnosis and maintenance services, connected to remote access network.
Cable standard: Industrial CAT5e / CAT6 shielded twisted-pair cable.
Wiring note: The two Ethernet ports operate independently without built-in bridging. Avoid arbitrary interconnection of LAN1 and LAN2 through external switches without network planning.
3. Serial Port COM1 (DB15 Male Interface)
Software-selectable communication modes: RS232, RS422, RS485 and Siemens MPI; hardware wiring must match the software configuration mode.
RS232 Point-to-Point Wiring
HMI TX ↔ PLC RXD
HMI RX ↔ PLC TXD
HMI GND ↔ PLC Signal GND
RTS/CTS hardware handshake is only required for specific scenarios; keep unconnected for conventional Modbus-RTU communication.
RS485 Two-Wire Multi-Drop Wiring (Modbus-RTU / Siemens MPI)
HMI Data+ ↔ PLC A / D+
HMI Data- ↔ PLC B / D-
Connect signal ground between HMI and all slave devices uniformly.
Install 120 Ω terminal resistors at both ends of the bus; adopt daisy-chain topology and prohibit star branch wiring.
Supports Siemens MPI protocol with maximum baud rate of 187.5 kbit/s.
RS422 Four-Wire Full-Duplex Wiring
HMI TX+ ↔ Remote Device RX+
HMI TX- ↔ Remote Device RX-
HMI RX+ ↔ Remote Device TX+
HMI RX- ↔ Remote Device TX-
Implement common signal ground connection for all devices.
4. USB Interfaces (USB1 / USB2, Rear Type-A Host)
Used for connecting peripheral devices such as USB mouse and keyboard, and supporting program downloading and log export via U disk.
Single-port maximum output current: 500 mA; high-power USB devices are prohibited.
Plug-and-play design with no additional wiring required.
5. SD/SDHC Card Slot
Rear push-pull card slot, no wiring needed.
Applied for program recovery, recipe backup and alarm log storage, compatible with SD/SDHC cards up to 32GB.
6. Grounding and EMC Installation Specifications
The front-panel IP66 protection level is only valid with standard panel installation and intact sealing gaskets.
Signal cables adopt single-end grounding at the cabinet grounding bar; double-end grounding is forbidden to avoid ground loop interference.
Keep power cables and signal cables separated with a spacing of no less than 20 mm to reduce electromagnetic interference.
Reliable PE grounding is mandatory; floating grounding installation is prohibited.
7. General Wiring Precautions
Complete all wiring work before powering on the device; hot plugging of DB15 serial port is forbidden during operation.
The serial communication mode is software-defined; mismatched wiring and configuration will cause communication failure.
Strictly follow official cutting size for panel installation; protect the gasket to ensure IP66 protection performance.
USB and SD card interfaces support hot swapping; power supply and serial ports do not support hot plugging.
8. Typical Application Wiring Topology
Standard automatic system: LAN1 connects to PLC switch, COM1 RS485 connects to Modbus-RTU field equipment, LAN2 is reserved for Ubiquity remote access.
Siemens MPI communication: Use dedicated DB15-MPI cable to directly connect S7-300/400 series PLC, and set 187.5 kbit/s baud rate in the HMI project software.
